Peanuts, Parties, and Our Firstborn Turns Nine

Two Saturdays ago was the National Peanut Festival in Dothan.  It is a long tradition and Rod and I have never missed one.  Ever.  Everything about it says tradition, from my aunt and uncle getting up at the crack of dawn to get everyone great seats, to the anticipation of the peanut truck that spews roasted peanuts onto the road....

We bring bags to put them in...

and eat peanuts while we watch the parade.

The parade has horses

and beauty queens

this year our little cousin was one of those beauty queens

bands

firetrucks

floats

and of course peanuts everywhere!

After the parade, our whole family goes to Red Lobster to eat lunch.  We don't question it, we just go with the tradition and for some reason, frozen seafood seems to go with peanuts, cotton candy, and stale Rice Krispie treats made by church ladies.
After lunch, we had a little birthday party for Briggs, who turned nine this past Saturday.  Since everyone goes to the fair in the evening, we had a carnival themed party.

Complete with cupcakes, cotton candy, popcorn, and peanuts!

Coca Cola in old fashioned bottles for the adults and blue Sprite for the kids

Briggs was so excited

That night, we went to the fair

The boys had "Megaband" passes so they could ride as much as they wanted.

And a good time was had by all!

A few pics from Peanut Festivals past....
